Challenge:

This project responds to the challenge of being able to provide quality, reliable, real-time information to mining companies, communities, and authority regarding the status of tailings dams.

Solution:

It consists of the development of a system for monitoring the physical and chemical stability of tailings deposits, using the best available technologies, together with the development of innovative mechanisms for the measurement of parameters and critical variables. This project is part of the National High Grade Mining Program and it is a joint initiative with BHP and Codelco.

Objectives:

1. Strengthen operational management of tailings dams.

2. Reduce risk perception by communities and stakeholders.

3. Improve communication between stakeholders.
