Designing smart power grids for mining
Energy eficiency and use of renewable energies

Project Leader:

Felipe Toro Vargas, Energy Specialist

Challenge:

The hourly cost of power is mainly impacted by contract price, marginal cost, decoupling, possibility of self-generation and consumption. The challenge is to take advantage of the most economical hours by increasing consumption and storing energy in order to reduce demand in the most costly hours.

Solution:

It consists of carrying out a study of different technological options to design an intelligent supply, storage and power consumption network (batteries, NCRE, demand management systems, etc.). This, together with the development of software and hardware that allows the intelligent network to be managed and controlled remotely and autonomously. The challenge will be solved by means of a Technological Contract for Innovation between CORFO and the Advanced Centre for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E) of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.

Objectives:

1. Reduce the cost of power supply.

2. Reduce the total price by at least 2%.
