Xprize: Mining without tailings

Project Leader:

Mario Parada Vergara, Supervisor of Sulfide Metallurgical Balance.

Challenge:

Optimizing copper recovery is one of the constant and main objectives in mining. It is for this reason that periodically studies are carried out in grinding and flotation stage oriented to improve the recovery of copper in ores.

Solution:

The project consists of exploring the possibility of improving the recovery of the flotation circuit at Centinela by capturing particles of extreme sizes that cannot be floated in the Rougher and Scavenger circuit. This is done by replacing bubbles as a classical means of flotation (concentration) by synthetic means, designed for specific purposes. The project is developed with CiDRA concentrator Technology Company.

Objectives:

1. Checking for improvement in overall recovery, minimizing Cu losses in coarse (rougher) and fine (scavenger) fractions.

2. Proven recycling of synthetic collection media, not affected by the use of seawater.

3. Ensuring that there are no downstream effects on the process.
